An exercise test will be performed at our lab. You will begin by walking on a treadmill with no incline. Your use of oxygen will be continually monitored through a face mask placed around your mouth and nose, and you will be able to breathe freely through the mask. The incline will be increased slightly every few minutes, and you will be asked to maintain the same walking speed.
We will monitor blood pressure, heart rate and ratings of perceived exertion (numbers related to how hard the exercise makes you feel) and the presence of symptoms. This process will continue until you can no longer continue to exercise, or until you feel as though there will be a return of symptoms if you continue any further.
After ending, a final set of measures will be taken and you will complete an additional symptom checklist. We then use personalized measures to create a treatment plan customized for each patient.
