The University at Buffalo Department of Orthopaedics is the largest orthopaedic practice in western New York; we proudly maintain a tradition of excellence that dates from the first orthopaedic course offered at the University in 1886.
University Orthopaedics offers complete care of all orthopaedic and musculoskeletal conditions; our board certified and fellowship trained physicians have the experience and expertise to handle the entire range of bone and joint problems, resulting in leading edge evaluation and treatment for our patients.
Our mission is to provide the best in musculoskeletal healthcare, education, and research to our patients in western New York and southern Ontario.

The department staffs three affiliated teaching hospitals
Buffalo General Hospital, the Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo, and the Erie County Medical Center.
The newly remodeled University Orthopaedic Center provides our patients with a state of the art facility for orthopaedic and musculoskeletal care.
Additional divisons within the department:
- University Sports Medicine is the leading team of orthopaedic surgeons, primary care sports medicine specialists, physical therapists and athletic trainers in western New York.
- The Orthopaedic Research Laboratory (currently involved in projects with knee, hip, and bone biomechanics) is dedicated to the basic science investigation of practical problems in orthopaedic surgery.
- The University Sports Medicine/University at Buffalo Concussion Clinic provides an exercise based treatment for individuals suffering from post concussion syndrome.
- The Cartilage Restoration Center offers treatment of knee disorders involving the injury and aging of articular cartilage.
