| POST OPERATIVE ACTIVITY - SPINAL FUSION |
| These are general guidelines; patients and surgeries can differ, and the schedule may not be the same for each person |
|
TEN DAYS - shower, standing only (not hot), no bending |
|
ONE MONTH - lift up to 5 lbs., return to school, walking, light upper limb exercises |
| THREE MONTHS - bicycling, light jogging, bending up to 45 degrees, swimming (non-competitive), NO FLIPS OR DIVING |
|
SIX MONTHS - lift up to 10 lbs., full bending, non-impact aerobics, dancing, limited gym (no contact/collision) |
| ONE YEAR - skating, skiing, snowboarding, tennis, lift more than 10 lbs., bowling, golf |
| TWO YEARS - routine gym, diving, rollercoasters, contact sports including hockey, football, basketball, lacrosse, karate, and volleyball |
|
NEVER - motorcycling, bungee jumping, jumping on horseback |

Antiobiotics should be taken before dental work for the first year. Post-Op: Amoxicillin one dose one hour before and one dose every eight hours for 14 hours after Cover the scar with high quality sunscreen lotion (minimum #20) whenever in the sun. |
